FUBAR, MURPHY's LAW, What a day!!! No regrets!!!

This day was doomed from the start....

Woke up late. Laurice and I were supposed to be leaving by 10:30am. Woke around 10:20a. Left the house around 11am. Forgot Wallet. Went back for wallet. Picked up Spero and other cast (Evan & Steve M) at 11:30. I told them 10:45am. Met them at Dunkin at 1st Ave & 116th. Spero's hood. Hope they like donuts.

Not really sure all the details about this gig. I know it is Jewish in nature. Probably Bar Mitzvah. Maybe Bat Mitzvah. Maybe a briss. OUCH. Not 100% of the exact start time.

What should be a 10 minute drive takes 40 because we were arguing about meeting so early and then being so late i missed the BQE ramp from the Grand Central Parkway. Saw some landing airplanes and realized the error.

We arrive at EAST MANOR in Elmhurst Queens at noon. Leaving cast in car I run in the building - a massive 500 seat + chinese buffet and banquet hall. Looking around, i see no sign of private party so i ask hostess (I use term liberally)

"Hi I am performing at the Bar Mitzvah. Where should I unload the sound equipment?"

"How Many in your Party?"
"I am here for Private Party"
"How Many in your Party?" - Let me put it this way - I am thinking I am in Seinfeld episode right away...
"Not sure, i am the entertainment"
"How Many in your Party?" (Getting more annoyed)
"Not sure, i am the comedy act"
"What is the Party Name" I tell name... "Name not in book you in the wrong place"
So on and so on.
"I am here for the 1:30 event. I am performing"
"Oh 1:30 you are too early. Sit over there and wait"

OK I am done. So I go back to the car. Relay this comedic episode to the cast. I realize there is a seperate entrance for a couple party rooms upstairs. I check them out. Around back, i find the DJ just arriving. At most of these events, the DJ runs the big show so I let him do the talking. We go back to the reception desk.

"How many party"
"I am the DJ for the BAT Mitzvah" (Ah HA it is a BAT MITZVAH - this guy knows more than I do!!!)
"How many in Party" (I am ready for Abbott & Costello routine)
"I am looking for the 1:30 party" (I am just cracking up inside right now)
"Oh too early, have seat over there"
"I am the DJ looking for the party. I need to set up>"
"Name not in book"
"Can I speak with manager"
"NAME NOT IN BOOK" (Now there is a male host that is getting very testy.

This goes on and on. But I figure if the DJ is here, we are good to go. I have confirmed a 1:30 start time. So I bring the cast in for lunch. The buffet is huge. At $11.95 it is a great deal with Dim Sum, Lobster, Peking Duck and Sushi in addition to 100s of traditional buffet items. The quality is much better than you would expect. A few items were a little too traditional/cultural even for my pallet.

Around 1pm I leave the cast to go check out the performance space, now figured out by the DJ. The room is actually a sectioned off corner of a much bigger room - separated by only oriental screens. There is a small performance/dance space in front of DJ table. OK This is not so bad. I tell the DJ, "I am not going to bring my sound system in. It is such a small space. As long as I can use your mic for a couple MC things etc." So I run out to the car to get the keyboard.

I FORGOT THE KEYBOARD. I brought our road piano into Sweet Caroline's Wednesday prior and left it there. OH CRAP!!! So I ran to the Radio Shack down the road and picked up a crappy Casio number. Ran back just in time to start a show around 2pm. Now I can only assume the bathrooms were museum like, because all of the preteens were hanging out back there. We had to round the up for the show.

So the DJ turns off the music, but there is still incredibly loud pop music pumping from somewhere. I start to "WARM-UP" the crowd. Fun group. However, just on the other side of the wall - er um - screens - there was a preteen karaoke party with 7-8 year olds rocking out to Mylie Cyrus. And they were loud. If we had out sound system, we would have been as loud but then they would have gotten louder and then we would have gotten louder... so on... so forth... This is the first time I felt a head ache. But always the trooper, I am just going to plow forward.

We start the show with Madrigals, which no one can hear until Laurice picks up the microphone. This was especially hilarious when Laurice gave up and just started singing PARTY IN THE USA.

Next up Audience Sound Effects. So I get up the Bat Mitzvah girl and her uncle the therapist. I don't think they here me too well plus in my own anxiety I also skipped a few key points. "Are you guys ready? GREAT. OK. Of to the therapists office" So I turn to take a beat before starting the scene. As I take a breath to allow a character to take over my body - still trying to use something of good performance technique I have learned over the years - The uncle starts interviewing his niece.

"So you are in need of therapy." etc etc etc For a second, I am debating - should I let this go on. Worst case scenario it eats up some time, right? But then he says....

"Are you on drugs? What is your favorite drug? Cocaine?"

OK STOP THE PRESSES and as I go to intervene he turns to me

"So what do you like on your cocaine?" Tongue tied as I continue to internally struggle - do I run with this or put it to an end?

"Er - Um - Vanilla Icing? OK I guess I did not explain myself. We do the scene and you make crazy sound effects....." At which time we kind of proceed. The uncle kept creeping back into the actual scene. At one point I blurted out "This guy must be a sponge. You have absorbed all of your clients' crazy."

Up next we move to Miracle Ear. Steve McClarty did a great mime routine translating Laurice and Spero and together they saved the show and brought something of an audience back to life. Evan and I do a scene in a zoo where we screamed for five minute columns. One of the columns looked like chunk from Goonies. I probably should not have said "You and I should do duel Truffle Shuffles". Freeze frame was a blast. I fell face first onto the floor. It was quite chilly. After a few more songs and scenes - all rather tough to hear - we wrapped it up. At which time the kids ran back to the bathroom. Perhaps there was Cocaine in there.

Well back to the city, we had an amazing LMAO performance. The past two nights we had 30+ high school students from Canada via a wonderful tour company, EXPLORICA. They were the base for two amazing crowds. I think Laurice is preparing a number of videos from these performances for YouTube. TBA

HAPPY NEW YEAR - HAPPY NEW DECADE - Now please stop snoring and let me sleep!!!

OK! Perhaps one year left to go on the decade for all of you "THERE IS NO YEAR ZERO!" types.

CAN'T SLEEP. It's 4am. I am in Binghampton, NY. Just had great gig for FIRST NIGHT. I went to bed early. Rudely woken up at 11:45 EST to watch Dick Clark and the Times Square Ball drop. After a few sips of Asti and I was back to sleep by 12:15 EST.

Quick note: Seriously, Dick, isn't time to retire. Loved you growing up. I remember the last few years of American Band Stand with Madonna, Prince and other early 80's upstarts. Loved watching Bloopers and Practical jokes. Loved you on the ROCKIN' NEW YEARS EVE for decades. But the past 2-3 years has been painful to watch. SAD. The comments are unintelligible. An unnecessary after thought to the real show. And Seacrest does a great job. The last two years have been ample transition. Go relax. Clearly this is past your bedtime at this point. I mean really.... the only thing you really had to do was count 20 to 1. Skipping 13 and 11 and then going 10, 11,, 9, 8 oops....

LAST YEAR

Ok - back to my current dilemma. For those that don't know the BEHIND THE SCENES of EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH and company, I have a reputation for making numerous strange noises. Some disgusting; Many hilarious as I drift off like dad at the Thanksgiving table. Allergies and over eating lead to some interesting sounds. But being a light sleeper, I usually do not go on for hours snoring, as the first big snort wakes me up as well.

I just woke up to a chorus of sounds rivaling a herd of bulls in heat. Laurice and I are sharing a room with Spero. Amelia and Chris are in the next room. (Actually 3 doors down). Spero sounds like an Ogre Whistling - A very high pitched growl. Laurice sounds like a Russian guard pissed because the vodka ran out. But together they sound as if processed by ghosts in conversation. Spero with a long train blow warning of the bridge being out followed by Laurice in a short boorish grunt.

When i rolled out of Bed, Laurice stopped. I was really hoping to record the paranormal phenom on the web cam. OF WELL. Spero just rolled over in silence. Now 4:26.

I just had to make a record of this moment. So the next time these guys complain about me snoring, I want them to record it, because I contend it does not get worse than this.

PS

LMAO, our off-broadway cmusical comedy revue, is doing great this week!!! Huge crowds. Great shows. TONS of fun!!! Starting the day after Christmas, we had two shows Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday at the Theater. Our busiest show was Wednesday at 3pm. Right after we rushed to Fairlawn, NJ to perform at the rec center (third time there in 6 weeks) and then here in Binghampton where we performed two shows back to back last night.

This weekend we wrap up the holiday season with Friday 8:15; Saturday 3 & 8:15; Sunday 4 & 8; Monday 8:15 and Tuesday 8:15.

Can't wait till next Wednesday when I can sleep all day before driving to Chevy Chase, Maryland for our first school gig of the year!

THE PERFECT DAY: Great Show, October Fest, Yankees Win!!!

www.waltfrasier.com

Yesterday was therapy. One could not ask for a better day - from the weather to every moment start to finish. The day I really needed after a week of drama and insomnia. Jimmy, my 5yo alter-ego, was in the driving seat.

It was Sunday, October 24, 2009. I first noticed how great the day was at 10:30am. WOW, the first time in months I slept in. Rolled out of bed with a renewed energy, answered a few emails from clients with new gig prospects, and then got ready for an afternoon gig. MMMM… Cold pizza and coffee - OK – not great – but not too bad either.

Driving in the new NAVY-8-OR – the EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH GIG mobile – was a true delight. There was a slight chill, but the air was clean and crisp. Northern Jersey was beautiful with autumn leaves in full display, maximizing the color palette. We get off the exit at HO HO KUS. We have passed HO HO KUS a hundred times en route to other gigs, always begging the question, “How do you make a HO HO KUS?” But upon arrival, the town has a very special aura. Seriously, more autumn leaves with classic houses of brick and a very cute town center complete with rambling brook and bridges reminding me of Vermont. Was the whole town here in NYC for a protest?

We pull up to the school. One could not ask for nicer clients – so gracious. The school offers more classic masonry and reveals a hidden treasure of a theater. Inside had a colonial feel with old bank style ceiling – flat cement with ornate moldings - and thick cement walls, both providing amazing natural acoustics. The wooded chairs suggested age but were in good repair. The stage had multiple entrances, beautiful curtains and more than enough lighting. Even the sound system was better than average. Oh, did I mention the piano was in tune and every key worked? This was more of a cathedral than a school.

We were early so we stepped out for a bite. Laurice was starving; Spero and I never turn down food. Chris and Charles were driving up separately later. Looking for a diner we must have made a wrong turn, getting a nice tour of the town trying to get back on track. We stop in a bagel joint to ask direction. It smelled so good we stayed. Have you ever heard of the bagels in New York. Unfortunately, mostly due to commercialism, it is getting harder and harder to find the great bagels, pastries, and pizza New York has bragged for decades. I grew up hearing tales from my Brooklyn born mother, and how the water in Maryland will never allow these knock off chains to truly recreate the magic. WELL, if want the real deal, go to HO HO KUS - Right in the center of town, next to the pharmacy, is a little bagel shoppe. Hey were busy and seemed to be running out of things. I settle for a Wheat bagel. The last wheat bagel had been taken. I explain I really wanted everything – everything bagel that is (I know I am a glutton but not that bad). Well it just so happens that a fresh batch of everything bagels had just come out of the oven. So I get a fresh everything bagel loaded with lox cream cheese, smoked salmon, onions and tomato. THIS IS WHAT MOM WAS TALKIN’ ABOUT!!! OH YEAH!!! Of course my breath was not potent enough to strike down every child in the audience but I was happy. Laurice had a turkey sandwich with enough meat to feed a family of four, and we shared a chocolate coffee cake, which was AWESOME!!! To top off the experience, the 5-star bagel deli from heaven was playing a Flintstones Marathon. I forgot how great that show was and how Simpsons, Family Guy and so many others are really ripping them off. The last thing we heard was Pebbles and BAMBAM singing “LET THE SUNSHINE IN”. As we paid we learned the deli owner’s family was headed for the performance. Again I dare you to find a more gracious family.

Back to the theater, the guys were waiting for us. A great family crowd was gathering. Our bagel family was right down front. It was a great show. I was feeling a little adventurous. During “World’s Worst” I was getting a very interesting list of “ask fors” (Suggestions for scenes). The cast gave me a dirty look when I said, “OK, lets start out with the world’s worst person to impersonate Chuck Norris.” WW is one of those games that tend to get very repetitive, so this successfully made us think and get very creative. Everything from martial arts blunders to me saying “I have been using the total gym for 30 years” and then pointing to my gut. I think the whole cast shared my love of the venue and audience. Even Spero, while chastising me for my emotional outbursts of joy, appeared moved and motivated to reach new heights. One of our best in a while. After the show Charles ran out, Chris ran to be scary for the Forest of Fear in Tuxedo, and we started home.

Spero and Laurice were talking about how tired they were and their desire to head home and wait for Yankees, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Californication. But I was still thinking what a perfect fall day this was. The smell and temperature remind me of growing up playing in the band with my dad and going to Oktoberfests - Dad on the trombone and I on the trumpet belting out Oom-Pah music. Not to mention the apple cider, pumpkins and hayrides. We are driving south on route 17 toward route 4 and the GWB. We pass Dykes Lumber, our favorite landmark in Jersey, and I say “Lets go to the Forest of Fear.” I think Laurice and Spero were in unison “Are you crazy”. It was 45 minute north, opposite direction of the city. But this was the only day we could enjoy the fall and I could not think of a better way to do it. We go back in forth. I think all three of us argued at some point the pros and cons for going home of heading north. We had jut gotten back to route 4 when we agreed to head north. So we turned around, the best you can on a road with no turn arounds or lights.

We drive up NJ- 17 to 87 to Woodbury. WOW lot of traffic at the Commons. Back down NY 17 to NY 17-a. We are a two hours early when we see the Forest of Fear. It lives on the grounds of the NY Renaissance Faire. This long winding mountai road just opens up to a grassy, muddy plain filled with carnival rides and attractions with the Halloween themes. We keep on going looking for something to keep us busy. I think we went all the way down and up and down again various mountaintops. We were fairly high up and could see for miles at one point. The locals are whipping around corners at alarming rates of course but we were enjoying our leisure drive. Again there were countless autumn leaves and rambling brooks. Just then we see aa sign for pick-your-own apples. How more FALL can you get this day? And it was on the way to Warwick, a town we were familiar with from previous gigs. The orchard was closed when we got there tough, so we pressed on.

In Warwick we stopped for a bite to eat. Very Americana. A small brick rail station was the center of town with walking trails and winding streets of antique shops, bars and cafes. Hundreds of locals seemed to be overflowing the bars to watch football and drink their favorite pint. At YESTERDAYS, Spero and I enjoyed a pint of Guiness. Wait I et a head of myself. The last 20 minutes, that wonderful lunch was starting to get to me. So as soon as we get their I find the true water hole. YESTERDAYS is a small bar and restaurant. Dark wood with stain glass separate a classic bar decorated with random kitsch and perhaps a 40-50 seat dinning area. There were two very small bathrooms just feet from the bar stools we chose to plop at. The Jets are killing the raiders. Come to think of it we did order the pints first before I excuse myself. The damage came quick due to the procrastination. I flush, wash my hands and turn for the door, only to notice the flush was not effective. DAMN these small toilets. I looked but no plunger to be found. Someone knocked on the door. “I’ll be right out” Oh boy. I crack open the door. The guy had gone to the other can. OK, no one was there. I peaked around the corner hoping to find a tool to use. Nothing. There was a waiter at a Positouch terminal right there. An older gentleman, with white hair, beard and stache, he resembled a thinner Santa or perhaps more like a classic railway man. I could imagin him in overalls etc. Now, those who know can attest I really do not have an indoor voice. So as subtly as I know how “So, I don’t suppose you have a plunger”, of course when I try to be slick, I tend to use my radio voice - deep, resonant and articulate. He said not to worry, he would take care of it. Of course I will never be able to look him in the eyes again. Not sure if the whole restaurant heard, but Spero and Laurice were floored. I walk over biting my lip but upon arrival nearly pass out from the brain rush of hysterics gushing. I must have been tomato red. I am cracking up as I type this now. Only ME MYSELF & I could possibly get into these messes - Borderline walking sitcom and wrecking crew. Both Laurice and Spero needed to “go” but feared what they would find. OH Did I mention how good the Fish ‘n Chips were? I had a second pint, this time Long Trail, micro brew from Vermont. Very good. No way I can drive. Way to giddy from the laughter and ale. I do not drink much anymore so those who knew me when might be surprised two pints is making me so tipsy.

So back to the FOREST OF FEAR…. (Scary Laugh insert here)
We get there and it is really dark now. I should mention I do not have a track record with these types of attractions. Recently in Myrtle Beach, I shield myself with my wife traversing the Ripley’s Haunted House. A true macho man to the core. There is a long line. Chris hooked us up. There were comps waiting for us. In line various characters crawled and strolled around to get everyone in the spirit. A large woman with a chain saw was enough to scare a dozen teenage girls into running around me for shelter. Watch out girl, I will cut you and leave to the wolves. So coming at us was this ghostly nun. Blood dripping down the face with torn robes and zombie hands seemed a bit creepy until we heard “So did you guys get the tickets?” It was Chris. HILARIOUS!!! And CREEPY!!! He walked us up to the gate. Inside there were rigged darts and a dunk tank with heckling clown, ripping off everyone from Yucko, the Jerky Boys and Carlos Mencia. DUTUDOO. Wow ripping off the biggest ripmeister in comedy. Seemed right.

There was quite a line for the haunted mansion, but Chris came through again and slipped us in front. Maybe it was the beer or all the giddiness from the outstanding day but I loved every moment with hyperactive senses. I give tremendous credit to the designer of this Halloween attraction. No expenses spared on near Jurassic Park levels. Such detail was enhanced by great performances that are regulars from RENN FEST. Many classically trained in physical and vocal theater arts. With us two other friends, both from RENN FEST apparently, and about 10-15 others joined our group. Somehow I ended up in front. UH – OH. The maze of dark hallways opening up to rooms was filled with infinite number of actors jumping out of hidden doors with sudden screams. I was cracking up every time I jumped. The best part was the tunnel. I am sure you have seen these before. The rotating cylinder you walk through with a platform the rotating slightly putting you on an angle. I always get a little dizzy and love the illusion, but this is the first time I have been through with alcohol in the system. Oh boy. I could barely make it, holding on to the railing for dear life, laughing hysterically the whole time. AWESOME!!! I give the cast and crew a lot of credit. Job well done.

The rest of the carnival was OK but nothing all that spectacular. Chris hooked us up with a couple ride tickets. Spero and Laurice both refused to join me on the Tilt-a-Whirl. Laurice grabbed a candy apple. The caramel and nuts nearly broke my teeth. The highlight was the pumpkin funnel cake. I loved funnel cake growing up, again at the fairs with dad playing Sousa marches and goofy arrangements of 70s and 80s pop tunes. But in my adult years I never found a good one - always pre-made and sitting around getting stale. Well this one was fresh out of the fryer. In fact I had to wait two minutes for it to be ready. Top it off with a pumpkin butter cream icing and this was heaven. One bite was so sweet I felt nauseous but it passed and the sugar high was the perfect end to a perfect day.

BUT WAIT, THE BEST PART WAS YET TO COME….

We head back to the car and the Yankees were just starting GAME 6 of the ALCS. I think it was 3-1 Yankee lead when we dropped off Spero. I got home and fell asleep watching Mariano Rivera close it out, after giving up a rare earned run. THEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN in the immortal words of John Sterling.

So onto Philadelphia. This is going to tear my family apart. Mom from Brooklyn – Dad from Philly.

So onto Fairlawn NJ for another show. Same cst as yesterday should be great.

So onto Election season for tons of comic material. It has been a while since I did Michael Moore.

So enjoy this and the coming holiday season.

SUMMER 2007. TONY KIDS wrote an article about us and one other company working with kids in the comedy clubs. (READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE http://www.fpny.org/nymedia.html) 24 hours late we got calls from both NBC and ABC.ABC actually called first and this video shows the result. (Featuring Founding Members ME, Laurice Fattal and Spero Chumas with Joyce Trotta, Keisha Zollar and of course Nick Fondulis - now appearing on NBC's Mercy - last season on KINGS)

THIS VIDEO PUT US ON THE MAP!!!! Seriously!!! We were already doing well. But since then our childrens division has tripled in business. It saved us considering we had NO major corporate events from December 2007 until this past summer. I think the big contracts coming in this summer and fall and for the coming holiday season is a very good sign for recession woes. back in 2007 we did a number of gigs for financial institutions including AMEX, Morgan Stanley and many smaller local firms. Merrill lynch was the but of most jokes as a way to steer focus from their own woes.

NATIONAL HEALTH CARE - PUBLIC OPTION part 1

I am writing a new blog reflecting today's development and more but wanted to post this as a prelude. Read it and the heated debate that followed. Please chime and continue the debate. PART II coming soon.... http://waltfrasier.blogspot.com/2009/09/health-care-reform-takes-major-blow.html

MY FACEBOOK BLOG -
NATIONAL HEALTH CARE

Watching commercial AGAINST National Health Care. Claiming it will take away choice of doctor and have admin dictating what health care I can receive. Well how is that different from now?

A quick point of reference: I grew up a card carrying Republican. Although I consider myself an independent, I leaned right on the political side. Always hated the claim that being a Republican makes you a racist homophobe. So left wing nut claims kept me from becoming a card carrying Democrat. Right wing nut claims kept me from being all that proud. CNN started a new segment WING NUT. Great idea however poorly executed. I hope they really develop it. To many WING NUTS are the loudest talkers. I am louder than all and I sit right (perhaps bad choice of word here) in the middle. And I am sick of the BS manipulation of the truth to lure “undecided” Both sides try to scare us into submission and than chastise the other side for the same dirty politics. I’m done. I continue.

My carrier is telling my wife she cant get a much needed test because it is not life threatening however it is a condition that could lead to cancer. Two years ago a doctor ordered an endoscopy. Recently a new doctor said it would be a good idea to rule out certain conditions. The problem is, as good as medicine is, there is still a lot of educated guessing going on. I know a lot of stories where someone is sick for years. They go through 1000s of tests and failed medical procedures to find some parasite was in there. But without all the tests you cannot fully exercise the process of elimination.

I am assuming that a National Health Care "decider" (NOT BUSH I HOPE!!!) will be less inclined than a Heath Insurance money bag to deny health care based on bottom line. Perhaps not. But a National Plan cannot drop you because you get too expensive.

Health care is such a scam these days. Insurance agents and lawyers have made it so expensive. The more legal threat, the more insurance goes up. The more insurance goes up, the more ambulance chasers milk the system.

The commercial I saw talked about choice. You will loose the choice of health care providers. This is so BS. If you can afford choice now, you will afford choice later. But for those of us that cannot choose, we need a better option. The commercial puts down UK and Canadian programs. But at the rate we are going, we are more likely to match the wonderful Mexican system as more and more people drop beneath the poverty line.

While typing this I see Maria Schriver talking about her new documentary Alzheimer’s Project. On a separate note, she looks like a Klingon. Too much plastic I think. I would love to launch a serious discussion. Free of propaganda. I know - impossible. Any HS Alums actually Doctors with the inside track. Health Insurance Advocates? I assume most of my actor friends are far to the left from myself, but still welcome the comments.

21 Comments posted - I have assigned fake names to repeated posters so you can follow the debate and positions. Otherwise I have left with out author. See the original note on FACEBOOK for these but I did not want to make public without permission.

how is it different? See the problems with EVERYOTHER Nationalized health care system in the world. Waiting lines for MRI's, cancer drugs not being made available because they're deemed too expensive by the Gov't, lack of doctors due to inadequate pay and over bearing restrictions... As a republican, I'm not against everyone having adequate health, but I am against the restrictions that will be placed on it by the inordiately LARGE Gov't. Besides, how much are you personally willing to give the Gov't so they can mismanage this?

I lived in the UK for 2 years & had their national health insurance. People in the US suffer if they do not have a good full time job w/benefits. In the UK every person got equal coverage whether all they could do was work part time at a shop or they worked the corp. world. If you lost your job you did not have $1000/mo COBRA bill to cover your family until you became re-employed. Car insurance cheaper -in the event of an accident your insurance company did not have to pay crazy healthcare costs of someone you seriously injured. People were denied coverage due to cost and they fought as hard as they could. Paid out of pocket but not what we do. No easy answer here but I don't believe we'll ever have nationalized health care in US, however we do need a way to look after those who fall between the cracks. We are a wealthy country & all citizens should benefit from the excellent resources available. How to change is the question b/c insurance companies rule the process now.

May 8 at 8:56am
Damn Walt...getting a little deep on a sunny Friday morning but love the thought provoking responses. Best solution: Mutant Healing Factor. "Nuff Said!

May 8 at 8:56am by BOB
We are NOT a wealthy country... Do you see where we're printing more money just to try to "Nationalize" the banks? Have you NOT seen that we're trillions of dollars in DEBT? That's not wealthy... I, for one, don't want the top tax tier to increase like it have in Britain... It's well over 50%... if not over 60%... We will bankrupt our country if we try to provide everything for everyone. What happens then when the country is too poor to defend itself? Or when the Chinese call in our loans? Are we going to sell Alaska and Hawaii just to try to pay down some debt? We have social programs in place NOW to help those who fall between the cracks. The problem? Pride, fraud, abuse of the system...

May 8 at 9:19am
yeah well I hope that the stupid prilosec will hold down the problem for now.

May 8 at 9:42am by BIFF
BOB, we gotta pray the Chinese never call in the loans. But then since we are not out there buying as much crap they don't have as much $$$ either now do they? Seems they are feeling the pinch as well. Again, I don't think National Healthcare is the way but the first thing my doctor asks when deciding my treatment or what tests to send me to is, "What insurance do you have?" it leads me to believe the care I get is based on the insurance since the tests etc are so expensive. There does need to be revision here. We are still a country with a lot of resources and if you have ever been to a third world country you will realize how good we have it, we just need to fix it so that even if my health insurance is lesser I get the tests I need to stay alive. Have you received a bill for hospital and seen that the insurance company paid 60% and that is OK with hospital. Have you then tried to pay only 60% of your hospital bill and what happens then? Not so good. Its all out of whack.

May 8 at 9:47am by BRAD (Name changed to protect the innocent)
It's easy BOB. The current system is bankrupting the people that pay for their own insurance and the companies that pay for their employees insurance. We currently pay the MOST For the WORST healthcare in any industrialized nation, and still well over 40% of our population goes without. Oh, and the insurance industry is designed to NOT pay for the treatment people need. What is so hard to understand? The healthcare/pharmaceutical/insurance industries as well as the banking system catastrophe are perfect examples of why PRIVATIZATION and DEREGULATION for essential services is a terrible idea. Keep listening to the comedians on the Fox news/Jerry Springer/hate show though, that'll make it all better... They're the authorities on everything.

May 8 at 9:51am by BOB
The 60% of the bill that's paid by the insurance is within the AGREEMENT the hospital/Doctors/Urgent Care facilities entered into. It's a 'bulk purchase' agreement if you will... Nothing wrong with that in any fashion. One can even argue that it keeps healthcare premiums DOWN... We can't hope or pray that the Chinese never calls in our loans... Why? that's not a pro-active approach to solving a problem. Standing in the rain without a raincoat and hoping you don't get wet makes about as much sense. You can't spend your way out of debt no more than you can drink yourself sober or eat your way thin... Our Gov't needs to work to effectively pay down our debt... As a society, we're wealthy and technologically advanced, etc... But as a Gov't, we are POOR and we as taxpayers are enabling them by allowing them to be continually voted back into office. We, the People, need to hold our politicians accountable for their spending. It's reckless and damaging.

May 8 at 9:56am
Wow BRAD, I don't know you but it really sounds like you got bit as a child... You want to discuss the banking situation? Well, take a look back to the mid-90's when the Community Action Commitees strong armed the banks to provide 'affordable' mortgages to people who can't afford them so the bank can build another branch in the area... Then take a look at how Fannie and Freddie were run in the ground while those on the left side of the aisle said everything was just fine... Perhaps you should take off your Marxist hat and try looking at things at bit more rationally...

May 8 at 10:01am by BRAD
As an analogy, the way I understand it the president inherited a sinking ship. It is an emergency situation and getting worse. The spending We're doing is an attempt to plug some of the holes in the ship so the crew can bail water out of the hull. If you recall he was not in favor of bailouts or buying the banks. He said last week he's not in favor of buying car companies either. He's got enough on his plate without trying to run a car company too! Oh, but of course he's a socialist according to hate radio talk show hosts. It's funny. They're the only ones who claimed he was the Messiah and that everything he touches is perfect. The rest of us are patiently waiting to see if his plan works.

May 8 at 10:04am by ME - YUP really ME obvious by the typos....
True. We need to be more responsible on spending. And that is the reason i have always stayed to the right of center. But again, my problem stems from hearing all of the arguments against National Health care - Corruption, Long Lines, Poor Care - if you have ever been to a Clinic in this country it is no better. For 8 years Bush told us to go to the emergency room. My wife got very sick and lost health insurance when she had to change jobs. So she went to the emergency room when she got sick. A few times. Often times spending all night waiting to see a doctor while in incredible pain. Like I said before, suffering from some yet to be diagnosed digestive issue. The way I see it - Health is Tangible. Money is a made up system that we put way to much emphesis on. Debt is a form a slavery geniously manipulated by a powerful few.If China wants there money, seriously come and get. If america were under real attack, we will always have the means to get it done. Money or no money.

May 8 at 10:07am - I CONTINUE
All that being said. I am not necessarily a PRO NHC system. i merely wish to point out the Hypocracy in the arguments being made. Mike at least has some intelligible reasoning. I suppose the marketing geniouses for the WING NUTZ assume enough Americans are dumb followers. Kool-Aid anyone....

May 8 at 10:13am BRAD
Wow BOB. Name calling is pretty lame. I thought you had a good point or two and was willing to have a real discussion with you. Too bad.Have a nice day.

May 8 at 1:08pm BILL (Name changed to protect the innocent)
BOB, your point about the CAC has some merit, but you can't lay the blame entirely at the feet of those of us who lean to the left. Yeah, there was a mistake there, but it isn't as if the right pushed that hard to control it. Look, the GOP had at least 6 years of totally running the country and the issue was never resolved. Why? For the same reason why the Democrats never pushed on it at the time....it benefited them not to regulate. Walt, my dad just had surgery on his heart (he's ok) but one of things his coverage won't cover was the ride to the hospital in an ambulance. How do you get coverage for having major surgery, but not for the ambulance? Crazy...

May 8 at 2:20pm by BOB
I can't fault any private individual, right or left, with what happens inside the Fed... In the past 2+ years, with a Dem Congress, this country has gone futher into debt. The current admin may have inherited a sinking ship in the Economy, but it is also grossly wasting our money. Giving BILLIONS to Chrysler and GM only to allow them to go into bankruptcy, when that wasn't an option to begin with. It's time that the citizens demand more from those we elect to office. It's time we demand that they stop trying to grow Gov't and produce and enabling nanny state. We don't need the Gov't to provide everything for us. If it would stop at Nationalized Health Care, fine... But it won't. Everything this admin puts out comes with fine print. Faust has the wrong idea, let's learn from that.

May 8 at 3:37pm More from BOB
In case you all have any doubt that this Administration wants to keep everything, even State Law, included under the thumb of the Fed, check this out... http://articles.latimes.com/2009/may/08/local/me-health-cuts8
U.S. threatens to rescind stimulus money over wage cuts
The Obama administration threatens to rescind billions in stimulus money if Gov. Schwarzenegger and lawmakers do not restore wage cuts to unionized home healthcare workers. By Evan Halper

I thought this was about healthcare. Sure its part of a bigger picture but we've gone off the rails. Healthcare needs to be fixed to give everyone access to better care and the gulf between those who have good coverage and good care and those who do not continues to widen. What are all those people who lost jobs this year doing for coverage? The families and people with pre-existing health conditions? So lost the job and so go bankrupt due to medical bills? That will get the country going again, more bankruptcy. Walt's wife is a good example of someone who was out of work that could have used some decent coverage rather then sitting around ER's. We have the means within our system and there has to be some way to work it out, how that is I do not know but there has to be a way. Any new Pres. would have had to take radical action to try to solve the radical situation we are in, one which the departing party had 8 years to try to avert if they had any foresight whatsoever.

May 8 at 8:35pm
Good job Walt. Is your status for tomorrow morning going to be about abortion? :) And by the way, the Chinese will NEVER call our loans. They are an export economy and the U.S. is the biggest consumption economy. They need us to survive. And to further add my two cents, our healthcare system sucks. We pay way more per capita than any other industrialized nation, and don't get better results for what we pay. The system is cumbersome, managed care makes things worse, drugs cost way more than other countries. and any Republican that wants to bitch about Democrat spending must have the wool pulled over their eyes from the "don't tax but spend anyway" Bush administration. there - had to get that in.

May 9 at 9:06pm by BECK (Name changed to protect the innocent)
I won't get into the ethical discussion about assuming that you are entitled to the fruits of another man's labor through force, so I will address the pragmatic aspects of a socialized system. Please inform me of a country that has better healthcare than the USA. Why do I regularly meet people who are here for surgeries that their home countries will not cover? http://www.facesofgovernmenthealthcare.com/ has some good stories, but I know plenty of people personally who I have met who came here for cancer treatment, heart surgery, and elective surgeries like knee or hip replacement. I also know wonderful doctors who fled Canada to the US because they were not allowed to respecialize under a socialist system. The only problems with our system is that it is 75% socialized already, and even private citizens expect dollar-for-dollar third-party paid insurance (they want the private insurers to function like a gov't entitlement).

May 9 at 9:09pm BECK
The solution is to get Washington out of the insurance business. Allow mandate-free insurance policies, purchasing insurance across state lines, and give me the same tax treatment as an individual that a company gets when buying a policy. And in many ways, we spend more in America on treatment because there is more to be had. Do you know the wait for dialysis in some of these countries, or the age limit? "Ethicists" are debating the cost of keeping babies alive who will be "burdens to the system".Put it more simply---ever requested clarification from the IRS on something? Ever dealt with the post office? Do you want those people running your healthcare?

May 9 at 9:12pm BECK Part III
One more spin---libertarians argued with leftist-Republicans about the patriot act. They said, "Sure, you trust George Bush, but would you trust Hillary with the same power?" We are now living that mistake as Obama has those powers we trusted to George Bush.So let's turn the argument around---what if Obama isn't always the President? Sure ... Read MoreAcorn will run elections from now on, and it is likely a generation will pass before a Republican or even moderate Democrat is ever elected, but just suppose another George Bush is elected? Do you trust George Bush to make healthcare decisions for you? Would Halliburton just get a no-bid contract to provide it?It amazes me that the generation that tried to foment so much distrust of the government and hatred of America wants to trust them with decisions of life and death.

Vblog: TRAFFIC in NYC, First School Gig of the Year, GO YANKEES!!!

We had a great gig in Warren NJ today. Spero, John Gleason and Chris Liedenfrost-Wilson joined Laurice and I for two shows. Tons of fun round trip in the NAVY -8-OR. Great Breakfast/Lunch at a diner COUNTRY SQUIRES. Pumpkin Pancakes make all of us happy. Unimpressed with Taylor Pork Roll. Good French Dip for Laurice. So we pull into the school and there is a FAMOUS DAVE's BBQ truck dropping off lunch for the kids. SERIOUSLY, this is a regular occurance. So remember all of those crappy school lunches. Pizza Friday being the highlight, we suffered rubbery hamburgers and runny wrapped dog food they dared called a burrito with that toxic cheese sauce. These New Jersey upstarts get restaurant catered lunch everyday but Tuesday. Burger King, REAL pizza from amazinging local joint, Wendy's, McDonalds, Local Deli Sandwiches AND FAMOUS DAVE's. The whole school smelled like PIT BBQ. I am ready to go back to school. Maybe they need atheater or music teacher. Heck i will be the hall monitor to get Famous Dave's BBQ once a week. ANYWAY.... We have two amazing shows - HILARIOUS!!! Great kids. Fun Audience. After the show, a bunch of kids came up to John "You look like Shaggy" and "Are you Jon Heder?" Especially after his voices in Authors. John will have to remind me what character he was portaying. Chris was doing the Dr. Suess and slipped into John's character voice. "Your voice is addicting" Now i have to comment on this towns civil planning. At least for the shopping malls. Of course being Jersey there is a series of strip malls on every corner. But no entrance/exit seemed to work normally. Each one either had a DO NOT ENTER sign, NO LEFT TURN, NO RIGHT TURN, etc and I seemed to violate every single one - making left turns from obviously right turning ramps etc. This happend at the bank, gas station, diner, and convenient store on the way out of town. We get back to the city. With the Yankee game coming soon, traffic is getting thick. We drive down to 145th street to get a photo inspection for our new car insurance (***SEE BELOW FOR FULL STORY***) and then we decide to head to Marble Hill Target, stock up on some groceries. Spero joins us as he has little shopping in his ghetto on the east side. Laurice is now driving so I can check on some emails from clients (QUITE A FEW ACTUALLY - Holiday is going to be busy season HO HO HO - I don't care if deemed wrong now I will always say HO HO HO and it has nothing to do with Madonna or your girlfriend so get over it) Me in the back, Spero is supposedly navigating. Anxiety is high from the bad traffic. We are all joking around. Listening to the Yankees. John Sterling starts talking about how great the Boston Pitcher is, seconds later we are lighting him up with hits. He gets out of the inning with just 1 run earned, but it was the beginning of the end or that guy. So I look up and say "You really need to turn right ASAP so we don't end up in the Bronx" What I did not realize.... i was too late. We were already on the bridge headed for Yankee war zone. We drive right pass it when i make the following video.

OH NO!!! THE VIDEO DID NOT COME OUT WELL SO I AM NOT POSTING HERE. WATCH WHAT YOU CAN AT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElPrh8DjTLY

LONG STORY SHORT - One should never drive past Yankee Stadium during a game. EVEN WORSE while they play a very important playoff berth battle with the Boston Red Sox. Should not even drive anywhere in a 10 mile radius. So we are navigating the streets as a team. Almost hitting scalpers and traffic cops. one officer is waving us to go. i mean getting pissed that we are not moving, while a black car/limo is literally inches in front of us. etc etc etc

WATCH PART TWO - As the drama unfolds, Spero fears I might have to use his bathroom.

Joke on him I really did not have to go... Joke on me, Spero got out of the car 1 block early just in case so I could not run up. Hope to see folks at the TIMES SQUARE COMEDY CLUB this weekend. CLICK HERE for $5 tickets

Happy to report that as I publish this Yankees look to be headed for a win. 8-3 without any sign of giving up....

ONE HICCUP
Did you hear the Irish Tenor - you know, the big guy with glasses and Ears that pick up radio waves from space, a cross between the monster son from goonies and humpty dumpty - sing GOD BLESS AMERICA. So they switch to Gulianni while IT (Irish Tenor) sings intro. On a really sour note, Gulianni winces to a point you would think he just crapped his pants - As if the former mayor sucked on a lemon at the same time it squirts in his eye. And it was bad - really bad - and that honest normal response from Rudy was priceless. So I dedicate the following Video to Spero who must have been thinking of me watching a fat guy sing like he was choking on a ball park frank.

PLEASE STOP CLEANING UP NEW YORK

Environmentalists MUST not have allergies. Leave me and my smog alone! Stop cleaning up MY urban paradise!

I have been travelling around the great American south east region for the past three weeks. Loving the water sports - Boating and Swimming in river, lake, gulf and ocean. Eating the best comfort food in the world!!! Suffering from the worst environmental allergies in years. Watery eyes, sneezing, swollen glands, scratchy throat and more.

Living in NYC the past twelve years has been the greatest cure to allergies ever. Smog and other pollution tends to kill most living things. Surrounded by iron, glass, brick and mortar rather than trees, grass and flowers keeps the body feeling great. But this paradise to allergy sufferers is under attack. There are those that would destroy this safe haven. And we need to stand up to progress and change. We need to bring this battle to the presses and local politicians. Our children deserve a world without rag weed, pollen and yes, hay fever!

Every year since moving to New York City I have noticed a slow constant worsening of my allergies. Every year more trees replace former dead zones. Now they are putting parks on top of old rail roads in midtown. Sure these creations of nature are pretty to look at. Sure they seem great on paper. But are we thinking straight? We already cleaned up the streets. Pushing out the mafia and gangs to the outskirts of town. We reduced the number of hookers, xxx clubs and con men in Mid Town, making a show like THE LIFE dated. We confiscated dozens of book bags and backpacks saving us all from terrorism once again. We even finally took care of Bernie "Made-off with billions" Madoff. Can't we leave pollution alone?

If you want "CLEAN" air move else where. But leave my dirty dead breathing supply alone. I want a dirty air candidate for Mayor. Which mayoral candidate will protect my right to smog? NOT Bloomberg. NOT any of the boobs taking pot shots at him. We need fresh political talent that realizes MY needs.

Last night I slept 16 hours with out once snoring or coughing. This morning my nasal and sinus passages are squeaky clean. My throat is mildly and properly moist but not coated. My chest is breathing clear and ready for Wagner.
