Yummy Brunch today in Times Square

After wrestling for a parking space on 49th street with an irate soda delivery guy, Laurice and I were looking for a good breakfast. Walking towards the theater we noticed TONIC had a brunch menu. What a great meal we just had.

The place was emptying out from a busy rush, but with in minutes we had the place virtually to ourselves. Giant projected MARCH MADNESS games and coverage cover the entire length of the wall behind the bar. We sat in a large U-shaped booth. Very cozy. Felt very VIP!!!

The menu was simple yet elegant.... OK that is a bit much. But each item a had a twist.

I ordered Banana and Candied Walnut Pancakes. The dish was a perfect size with three pancakes - about the size of McDonalds but ten times tastier - layered with sliced banana and candied walnuts topped with a dense fresh homemade whipped cream. On the side was a warmed maple syrup. The sprig of mint was a nice touch.

Laurice order the eggs Benedict, which sported a perfect hollandaise over two slices of wheat bread trimmed of all edges into a perfect circle. On a side - or rather between the two Benedict towers, there was a mixed green salad with an Asian vinaigrette - basically balsamic with a touch of soy and sesame oil. Yummy!

The brunch at $14.95 came with a cocktail. I drank both belinis. This is not a Brunch you are going to gorge. This is quality not quantity.

I also ordered the Applewood-smoked Chicken Sausage. The were very tasty, but the portion was huge and very suggestive....

I call this one TIME TO FIRE THE MOILE....
TONIC is more known for its sports bar appeal. With the multiple taps and TVs, definitely ideal for March Madness and the like. But if you get a chance, try out the Brunch. Next time I am going for the Apple Cinnamon Swirl Brioche French Toast.
